Majors & Minors (Applicants)

To change your major as an applicant for Cal Poly Humboldt you should select the specific major you would like to change to and admissions staff will update your record, which will show in your Student Center in about 3-5 business days. Applicants are not eligible to declare minors or second majors. Once you are a current student, use this form and select Current Student, then Majors & Minors to learn more about the process.

Class Registration & Schedule (Applicant)

New students must be admitted and eligible to enroll in classes.

Class Registration & Class Schedule (Alumni)

Alumni who are not currently admitted and pursuing a degree, are not eligible to enroll during priority registration. However, you are welcome to take classes as a community member via Open University through Extended Education.

Class Registration & Class Schedule (Former Students)

If you are currently on an educational leave agreement with the university, you are considered a 'current' student and will be eligible to enroll automatically when you return from leave. If you have been away from the university longer than the terms of your leave agreement, you will need reapply. Learn more about readmission.

If you are returning after being academically disqualified, you will need to reapply and petition for reinstatement to the university. See Disqualification & Reinstatement for instructions.

When to Register in Classes
- Check Enrollment Dates - Enrollment dates are available when the class schedule is posted for the following semester. Don't see an enrollment date? Check your graduation date! If your graduation date has passed you are not eligible to register for future classes. Complete a Graduation Date Change form if needed.
How to Register in Classes

- Adding courses when the scheduled times conflict (overlap) requires permission from both instructors on a signed Time Conflict form. Find the username email addresses for all signers (hint: use this AdobeSign directory, or choose Forms from the My question is about... drop down).

Commencement

The Commencement webpage has the latest information, including how to order regalia (cap & gown), ceremony details and logistics.

Graduation, which is the awarding of a degree, should not be confused with participation in commencement ceremonies. DARS Information for Former Students & Alumni

Alumni & former students will no longer have access to their original, up to date DARS. DARS is an interactive advising tool while you are an active student at Cal Poly Humboldt and it is not an official record of your coursework or academic history.

If you need information about courses taken, grades, GPA, etc., you can request transcripts (choose Transcripts from the My question is about... drop down).

Grading Information for Faculty

If you need additional assistance or encounter any problems, to receive the quickest response please call our Grades Messaging Line, 707-826-4971 and leave a message. Messages left on this line will be reviewed during the normal business hours for the Office of the Registrar (Monday-Friday 8am-5pm, except campus closures).

FAQs

Q: Why does DARS Planner show an alert next to one of my planned courses?
A: Click the “check mark” (validate plan button) located at the top of the plan often while making changes. This refreshes your audit on the left, and updates plan alerts on the right based on recent changes. If you still see an alert, click the alert icon to read the details and learn if this is an issue because the course may not be offered that term and/or because pre/co-requisites are not identified.

Q: Who can I talk to if I have questions about major/minor requirements in my DARS?
A: Check with your major (or minor) advisor about major requirements & substitutions.

Q: Who can help if I have questions about GE & other non-major requirements in DARS?
A: For general advising around major & GE exploration, contact the Academic & Career Advising Center. For questions about GE & other degree requirements, DARS, transfer credit evaluations for GE, American Institution, & other non-major requirements, please contact us using the form below.

Q: Why don't I have access to DARS? Why does my DARS say "no default programs found"?
A: Only undergraduates will have access to DARS. Post-baccalaureate students can learn more about degree requirements and degree checks here: second bachelor's degree, certificates of study, credential or master's degree.

Financial Aid

Finances (Parent/Family)

Using AdobeSign (students) has step by step instructions for starting the process, as well as how to check the status of your forms. The following 3 tips will ensure you form is routed quickly and accurately:

View the form and figure out which signatures you need (instructor, chair, dean, etc.)
Look up Humboldt username emails for all signers (e.g. abc123@humboldt.edu) with the AdobeSign Directory (login required). DO NOT USE name emails with Adobe Sign. Using the wrong email is the #1 reason forms are delayed or cancelled. In the directory, use the Major Lookup Table on the main page to find all deans, support staff & department chairs. If you need help finding the emails or want to double check, just contact us.
Add the email addresses to initiate your form, complete your fields and sign.

Tip: If you are signed into a personal (non-Humboldt) Gmail account, you will need to either sign out of the account or open a new private/incognito browsing window before going to Adobe Sign.

When will grades be posted?

After grades are submitted by faculty, it takes approximately five business days (Monday through Friday, excluding campus closures) to “finalize” grades. As we begin the grading process, you may see grades appear in your Student Center, but grades are not considered official until the grading process has been finalized. Check your Cal Poly Humboldt email regularly for updates. If for some reason we are unable to award your degree, your Graduation Counselor will notify you about any outstanding requirements and the next steps to complete any remaining requirements.

Earning your degree & receiving your diploma

Continue to check your Cal Poly Humboldt email regularly until you receive an update about your degree status. Learn more about graduation processing timelines (when your degree will be awarded, when transcripts are available, how to order rush transcripts, and when to expect your diploma).

After your degree is awarded, you will be notified and asked to review/update your permanent home mailing address if needed (you can take care of this in Student Center) before we mail out the diploma.

Transfer Credit & Articulation (Applicants)

After you apply and send your official transcripts and/or exam scores (AP, IB, CLEP, etc.) to Cal Poly Humboldt, a counselor will review your transcripts to see which credits will transfer. Go to: Sending Transcripts for instructions. A Transfer Counselor will evaluate your credit for meeting General Education, American Institutions, and Diversity & Common Ground requirements.

For Current Cal Poly Humboldt students: Send your official transcripts and/or exam scores (AP, IB, CLEP, etc.) to Humboldt. Go to: Sending Transcripts for instructions. Once received, a counselor in the Office of the Registrar will review your transcripts and determine which credits transfer and how those credits apply to your degree, including any General Education credit.

If you believe a transfer course should have counted for general education but it does not currently show as approved in your Degree Audit Report (DARS), please contact us below and provide the course syllabus &/or description(s).

If you believe an elective course should count toward your major, you can work with your major advisor to see if those elective credits can be applied to your major.
