Hello everyone, my name is Selena. Umm, I am the visiting experience coordinator at Cal Poly Humble. We're super excited to have you all here. I'm welcome to our next steps webinar. During this webinar, you are going to hear from all of these people on this slide for the agenda. You're here from forever humble families, which we are going to start off with. That way we're able to present our families with as much information in the beginning before we get into the nitty gritty that's really typically going to be catered to the students. So this is for families, but is also for our students.
These are the presenters that you are going to hear from. We have a big roster essentially that you're going to hear from and that the end, if you have any specific questions, these people are going to be available to be able to answer those questions that you might have. But to start off, we are going to hear from forever families.
My name is Danielle Muniz. I am the coordinator for forever Humboldt Families programming forever Humboldt families is a branch of the university that helps parents, families, supporters of students connect to resources around campus so.
Our biggest message here is the biggest piece of advice for parents and supporters, families at this point in your students life is to to stay involved.
And we, you know, knowing that Humboldt will become a part of your home and their home for the next, you know, few years, we are, what we want to do is equip you with the resources and the knowledge to be able to help your student when they come to you. And so we want to be able to educate you on everything that's available to help your student. You know, research and our experience shows that students do better when families stay involved. And you can reach out to our office any point, any circumstance, you know, students, send your parents our way.
Bella Sisk-Correll

Are there any connectivity issues? The presentation seems to have a glitch.
Sometimes it's, you know, overwhelming to provide information and we are are here to act as the funnel that connects you as supporters with the right campus resource. So we have a variety of programs that you can be a part of.
And so registering for Forever Humboldt Families gets you into a bunch of different programming, which I have here. So we have an online class.
Sulaina Banks
07:02:42 PM
@Bella, you might want to restart your browser, and it should fix it
Forever Humboldt Families 101 that we ask families to start on the first day of school. It's nine weeks long. If you were to click it today, you could get access and begin it. We actually leave it open all year, but you know, you could probably do it in about an hour and a half if you didn't want to go at the pace. But we encourage you to do the 9 weeks at the start of the academic semester so that it it you know, it's deep dives into topics that probably align with your students experience at that time.
Sulaina Banks
07:03:37 PM
GoogleChrome is a preferred browser for this webinar platform as well.
So we have just our, our website here and clicking into the to access the course will bring you to that forever humble course. And then you can just kind of see some of the, the learning modules we have here. So at the end, at the end of those nine weeks or at the end of the learning modules, if you've done all the sections, then there's a quick quiz that should be, you know, easily completed.
And we actually send your student a Cal Poly humble hoodie, so good incentive and the perfect attire for this area. So you'll also get a monthly E newsletter. So we just kind of, you know, keep you updated on what's happening on campus.
We, you know, the course itself is focused on new families. The newsletter is really for all families.
And then additionally, we have the family insights. So these are monthly Zoom sessions with a little bit more of a human connection rather than at the online class. So umm, the family insight started this year. They've been pretty small and intimate and I'm sure they'll start to grow. Umm, you'll have an, you know, variety access to a variety of people. Most of them are here today and you know, just creating those peer-to-peer connections, which.
That brings me to the family Ambassador program. So essentially once you've gone through your first year as a family member, as a parent, you'll be able to participate in the programming that we have and some of the events throughout the year and, you know, being an ambassador to other new and incoming families, so.
So and then also we have the university puts out a magazine once a year and going in depth in some of the amazing research and student programs that we have on campus, so.
The really well done magazine and that in the Humboldt calendar every year are a coveted, umm, gift from, you know, for our constituents. Umm, So please reach out to our office, umm, at any point in time or contact information family at humboldt.edu or family.humboldt.edu. Umm, and then I'm going to share.
Yeah, so these are the dates our upcoming students send off picnics. Hopefully there's one in your region and you can come and gather and meet new students.
And families prior to Move in day, new students should have received an invite or you can go to the family website to register. And we look forward to seeing you.
Hello, everybody. Hopefully you can hear me, but my name is Marissa or Marioline. You can call me whichever I will answer to both. And I'm here to talk to you about registration. So I work over in the Registrar's office and I know a lot of you probably have questions on how do I register for classes. So let's talk a little bit about that.
Sorry, there you go. So your next steps. So congratulations on being admitted and paying your deposit and you're coming to Humboldt. I just want to do a quick Congrats. So what you'll have to do next, and it's open now, is an online registration tutorial. So you should have gotten an e-mail with all that information how to access it. But it's on Canvas, which is actually going to be the system we use for classes. So you get familiar with it before you get here. And it's 100% on life online and it's self-paced. So you can go in there and complete it at your own pace. It'll hold your spot for where you were, but you do have to complete it in order to register for classes. So be sure you get that done.

If you have questions for any of our presenters, please enter them into the chat and we will answer them at the end of the presentation!
And in there, it will show you how to register, how to navigate your My Humble Portal, who your advisor is, or how to contact an advisor if you need it, if you're a freshman, who to contact, and if you're a transfer, who your advisor is, and if you're a returner, same thing. And it actually helps you plan and enroll in your first semester. So you do have to go in and complete this and it's open now and I'll be here for questions at the end if you do have questions. So please feel free to ask. And so it will actually show you in that course, it will teach you how to navigate something called a degree audit report for students.
Bella Sisk-Correll
07:07:49 PM
I have. Is this pre-recorded or a live presentation?
So if you hear say DARS, it's just an acronym for degree audit report for students. And this is basically what you'll be using when your student here to see your degree. It'll show you if you can see on there, it shows some classes, it'll show you what you need to graduate and your progress. So it's very interactive. You can see all the G ES you need to complete all the major courses you need to complete. And you can actually create your schedule online using this tool. So it's a great tool. And if you haven't already, please submit your official transcript so we can update this before you get here.
Sulaina Banks
07:08:22 PM
@Bella, This is a live presentation that is being recorded. The recording will be sent out tomorrow.
Or before you register for classes, if you send in your transcripts, we can get that going. But this is going to be in your new student registration tutorial. So be sure you go in there and you complete that. And if you have any questions at the end, please feel free to ask and I'll be here to answer those. Thank you.
Hi all. My name is Shannon Berg. She, they, and I am with the Academic Advising Center. I'm an academic advisor. I work with art and film students as well as computer science and software engineering students. And I'm also an Hsu Humboldt Capital Humboldt alum. And so I'm going to be presenting a little bit to you today.
Let's see, the slides are not going forward for me.
Hi, Shannon. Just give me one second.
Sure. Yeah, yeah, it's not letting me advance the slides.
Excellent. Thank you so much. All righty. So both freshman and transfers, as Maddie was saying, complete the online registration tutorial, which has lots of great information in it, especially around that dars uh program. Umm, now your registration has opened and so for freshmen, umm, you're going to be uh getting PBLC or place based learning community block enrollment, umm, to guide your class registration.
And then the next step from there is that we have a team of advisors who are working behind the scenes, taking a look at all of your student centers and, and checking your schedules and seeing if you're in the appropriate classes for your major. Umm, And so we're sending out emails. So you're going to get an e-mail from us letting you know if you've got a good looking schedule, uh, set up for the, uh, the start of fall, umm, for transfers. Umm, you're going to be meeting with your department, uh, coordinator. So in most cases, that's going to be the chair of your department.
And they're going to help you with reviewing your transcripts and selecting classes to get you started in the fall. All students coming in, new students are going to be assigned an academic advisor around mid August. And so be sure to check your student center to see who your advisor is, umm, so that you can make sure to check in with them. Another quick little tip, umm, at this point is it's a really good idea to take a second look at your schedule and just double check that you have at least 12 units or more.
Umm, so that you have that full time status, uh, let's see slide three or, or next slide. Thank you. Umm, let's see. So, uh, yes, meet your academic advisor. Umm, so students, uh, start out with umm, an advisor in admissions. Umm, let's see. And then, uh, they get onboarded. Umm, so they start out kind of admissions with that onboarding process.
Then in August, you get assigned to an academic advisor, umm, that person, if you're an EOP student, you're going to have an academic advisor from the EOP office who will be supporting you throughout your entire college career. Umm, for us, we work primarily as academic advisors in the Academic Advising Center, were assigned out to about 75% of our freshmen and sophomore students. And so we work with them to kind of get the ball rolling to really help you with figuring out like GE requirements.
And then once you hit that point of junior status, you are reassigned to a faculty advisor. So you get that in depth kind of subject matter area advising and then after. And then you also have some different options as far as advising goes. There's our Centers for academic excellence across campus. They're there to support you and provide academic advising as well. So there's also the RAMP program, which is a group of students.
Who are mostly sophomores who can help you with getting acquainted to the campus?
And then finally, once you hit that senior status, there's going to be a transferring graduation counselor who is going to support you as far as doing a final audit. Make sure you have all your coursework done to kind of help you with that final piece of graduation.
Alright, I think we're ready for the next slide.
Thank you so much. And yeah, so you'll get that assigned advisor. Umm, regardless of who your advisor is, who you're assigned to, we are here for you at the Academic Advising Center. We do have a drop in advising. It's available for all undergraduate students. Umm, So if you have a quick question and you're like, you know what? I just don't have time to go see my academic advisor, my assigned advisor, you're always welcome to stop by our drop insurance. We're there to support you with lots of different things like how to navigate your doors, how to build your planner, how to use the scheduler.
You know, just add, should I add or drop, should I go credit no credit? So lots of those kind of policy related questions were there to to support you with those.
And I think the next slide, Yep, umm, sweet. And so, umm, academic resources, umm, there's a number of reasons to utilize your academic resources. Umm, it's, they're not just there for you if you're not doing well, although they are there for you if you're not doing well, if you're struggling when your classes, there's the Learning Center available to you. There's US academic advisors to support you, umm, and help guide you to resources that can help.
But beyond like if you're struggling, they are just great resources to access. When I was a student, I used the Learning Center a lot just to learn how to study better, how to take better notes. There were lots of different things that I was able to utilize there. They also have a writing studio where you can drop in to get writing support. So lots of great supports going on for students here on campus. We also had, you know, we, we're available to you.
As academic advisors and we love to hear from you any sort of question you have where where you know available and able to help out.
Also, getting to know your instructors. Talk with your professors. Go to their office hours. That's what they're there for. They're there to go meet them and talk to them. Not only is it great to make connections with your your professors, just to get to know them and to learn more about how you can be successful in their class.
Umm, but it's also a great way to make those connections within your, uh, major area. So if you're looking to get, you know, a letter of recommendation or something like that down the road, building those connections with your faculty, with your academic advisors is super important. Lastly, umm, checking your student center every semester to make sure you don't have any holds or to do's that need to be taken care of. Building your daughter's plan and updating it every semester and getting familiar with your catalog rights as well as your major academic plans so you can make sure you're following along, taking the classes that you need to take to complete your degree and not not wasting any time. So.
Yeah, good stuff. That's it for me.
Thank you everyone, look forward to seeing you.
Hi everyone, My name is Bori Mazza and I'm the associate Dean for the College of Natural Resources and Sciences. And, uh, I wanted to continue talking about academics a little bit more. So trying to talk to you a lot about your immediate concerns and what you need to do now to get into classes. And what I wanted to touch on a little bit is some of the longer term opportunities and advice that I can give you. So our campus of course has many, many opportunities for you to be engaged and.
Obviously your most important concerns are right now for you to get into your classes, but we really would like you to be thinking about all the different ways that you can engage. So we have a number of assistantships, internships, and research opportunities on campus and these really vary. Some of them are volunteer opportunities, some of them might be paid. There are some courses that include service learning or clinical placements or field courses, for example, in the sciences.
So we really would like you to take advantage of these opportunities in addition to things that you have embedded in your courses. It really is something that umm, is beneficial for you to do because you would be able to in some cases make money, umm, in other cases gain some work experience that can help you get a job more easily after you finish your, uh, undergraduate degree and also understand perhaps what you would like to do with your degree and what direction you want to choose. It can also help you explore maybe your major beyond the coursework, or also it could give you an opportunity to explore other interests that you have.
So sometimes you might be majoring in something, but you have language skills, for example, that you would be able to use in other places. So we highlighted a few of the research centers and opportunities that you have on campus. These are certainly not all of the opportunities. There are just some things that we wanted to highlight. We want you to seek these out. We have, for example, that Shots Energy Research Center, which focuses on sustainability and clean energy. The Bridges Colors program that allows students to go and learn more about Cancer Research and biomedical research.
The North Coast Concussion Program that allows students to work with UMM baseline assessment and post injury assessment of athletes and other members of the community. The CPS Scholars program that allows students to UMM do research with faculty members. The College Core program that awards 10th out up to $10,000 to students who complete 450 hours of volunteer work in certain certain community partners.
The Toy on editorial office that can give you experiences with literary editing. The Translation and Interpretation Center that provides translational services to the campus community and to the Humboldt community. So to get involved, I'm going to echo what Shannon already said. Please talk to your professors. They're a really great resource. Umm, many of them are excellent researchers who are also really engaged and interested in working with students.
Departments also have their own websites and bulletin boards. And of course, we have many campus offices that support umm, these external opportunities, for example, the career, the Career Development Center, and they put on several events during the year, for example, the career and volunteer Expo. So please look For more information on these opportunities and we hope that you really make the best of your time here at Humboldt. I'm going to hand that over to our next speaker.
Hi everyone. My name is Morgan Mcbroom. I'm the Associate Director in the Financial Aid office, and I'm here to give you just a brief overview of some of the next steps that you can expect as you get ready to start with us in the fall semester.
So some very specific things that you can do to start getting ahead and prepare yourself for, uh, the upcoming fall. If you're a financial aid student, I strongly recommend that you log on to our student forms portal, umm, and create an account. The student forms portal is essentially our electronic portal for submitting requests, submitting changes to your enrollment, submitting changes to a possible loan that you may need to borrow to help with your expenses.
Or there may be times when the financial aid office needs to collect additional documentation from you for an appeal or for verification, and you would do that through our student forms portal. Now, even if we're not requesting forms from you at this time, it's really a good practice just to create the account right now. That way, when the time comes and you really need to utilize it, you can just log right in and it's ready to go for you. You can go ahead and do this at any point as long as you filed your financial aid application.
You do have access to the student forms portal and so you can just log right in there and you use your same login information for your My Humble account. So and then you just match it with your name, your Social Security number, and your date of birth. The next step that you'll want to consider after you get registered for your classes, which my colleague Maddie had talked about earlier in the slides, is could possibly giving your parents authorization to access your financial aid information.
If you want them to, it's totally optional. A lot of parents like to help their students out or, you know, help ask questions that, uh, you may have about your financial aid award. Essentially, we need your permission as the student in order to provide that, uh, to your parents. So after you've registered for your courses, you'll get access to what's called your student center and on the student center landing page, about midway down the page on the left hand side.
You'll see a link that says authorization to release, and this authorization to release allows you to give your parents access to financial aid as well as admissions. Umm, registrars office, a number of other offices where you might want your parents to be able to call in and ask questions without you having to be on the phone at the same time. The authorization to release is good for one academic year. It's a live form, so once you complete it.
You, you, your parent can call in the next minute and we would be able to see it on your portal. And you can also remove it at any time. If you get to a point you're like, you know what, I can handle things on my own, I'm going to go ahead and take this off then you can absolutely do that at any point in the year.
The next step, once you have access to that student center after you register for your classes, is you may want to consider signing up for direct deposit.
Whenever you get a financial aid payment, the financial aid first goes to pay your tuition and fees and if you live on campus, it'll go to pay your on campus housing charges. If you're not living on campus and your tuition and fees are paid in full and you have some extra financial aid over, then we would want to be sure to get that money to you. And the fastest way to get it to you is through direct deposit. All you need is your personal bank account number and the routing number for that bank account.
And you put it into your student center and there you go. You're good to go. If you aren't comfortable with a direct deposit, that's certainly OK. It's not required, it's just strongly recommended. But the campus does issue paper checks in that case, and you could go to the cashier's office and pick up that paper check when it's ready for you. They'll e-mail you if they have a paper check for you to pick up.
And then the direct deposit, I should say, is good for the length of time that you're at Humboldt. So it's not like the authorization where you have to update it every year.
Once you put in your direct deposit information, umm, it's good until you decide to revoke it or if you change your account information.
Alright, so umm, you let's say you've registered for your classes and that means that your tuition and your campus based fees have been charged to your student account here. In a couple weeks, if you are living on campus, your housing charges will be applied to your student account, so you'll see these charges on your student center.
Again, after you register for classes, umm, those charges will be showing on your student center account until about a week before school starts. Umm, about a week before school starts, financial aid is released. It goes to your student account and it's applied to any charges that are on your account at that time. If your financial aid is greater than the charges do, that's when you get a refund, either through direct deposit or through a paper check if you're financially does not quite enough to cover what you owe.
Then you'll need to cover the balance through a couple of other means. You can do this by setting up a payment plan. Both tuition and fees and housing have payment plans available where you can break up the remaining balance into a monthly payment. I should say that you only get charged one semester at a time. You get charged fall, you know, during this time, right before the fall semester starts, and then you get charged your spring charges like November, December.
Right. When it's getting time to register for those classes for the spring and you'll get those additional charges.
Again, so all of this information is accessible through your student center, which you get access to after you register for your fall classes.
Haven't filed for your financial aid application yet? That's OK. There's still time to submit your FAFSA application and be considered for federal financial aid for the upcoming academic year. We are getting ready to send out finalized award packages, so if you were early filer, that's great. Hopefully we've been able to issue you an estimated award package.
And we're getting ready with housing charges and everything coming up here to, to issue those finalized award packages soon. You'll get an e-mail and an updated award notification once that those finalized awards are ready. And again, if you haven't filed for your financial aid application yet, there's still time to get it in. Still time to be considered for financial aid for the upcoming academic year. And just let you know here pretty quick and just a couple months, it'll be time to renew that financial aid application.
For next academic year, so be sure to keep an eye on your student e-mail account. We will be sending you out communications throughout the school year to let you know when it's time to renew, to file for scholarships, to get everything in line so that you can just continue to get the financial aid that you need as you go through your journey here at Humboldt. With that, I'll pass it on.
Hi everyone. My name is Carly Strand and I am the Room Assignments Coordinator in the housing Office. Congratulations on choosing Cal Poly Humble. I'm also an alumni and think this is a wonderful school and a wonderful area, so we're excited to have you all, so welcome.
So our housing application does remain open now throughout the summer and into the school year. So if you have not yet applied.
You can, there's still time. It does not close if you have already applied. Most people have already received their room assignment. We do have a small waiting list for upper class students. Still no waiting list for freshmen, so there's still space available. If you are considering canceling, we would like to remind you that the cancellation date is July 19th in order to cancel and avoid any type of fees.
Starting July 20th, if you cancel after that date, there will be a cancellation fee and a prorated penalty depending on how soon you cancel. If you have already gotten your room assignment, you can log into your housing portal and select A move in time slot in your application and for fresh for first time students, move in is August 17th which is a Saturday and for all upper class students it is August 19th.
And that's about a week before school starts. So you are welcome to move in throughout that week. But we have a lot going on. It's we're really tailored for moving on those days. So those are the days that you can select the move in the move in times. If you are wondering what to bring, I'm sure, as I'm sure all of you are, you can go to our website under resident resources. Among a lot of information there is move in info that can give you ideas on what you might want.
Your roommates information in your portal on your application status page and you should be able to find their e-mail there so that you all can connect on who's bringing what. So you don't, you know, have 5 coffee pots or whatever the case may be. And also just to connect with your roommates to get to know each other a little bit before moving.
There will be a welcome week happening that first week starting the 19th. There's a variety of activities going on.
With the main campus as well as housing such as like barbecues, karaoke, movie nights and stuff like that.
Oh, I did also want to add something Morgan had mentioned authorizing a parent to, you know, call or communicate on your behalf. There is housing has that too. So if you would like your parents to be able to communicate with us and us to share information with them on your behalf, you should check the housing one as well. Not necessary, but some people prefer that.
So we also offer resources for off campus housing for folks who would like to live in the community. We have a an off campus housing coordinator that you can schedule a meeting with. On our website we have a section for off campus housing and there's a link there that you can schedule, schedule an appointment with her and she provides, she doesn't find housing for each individual in the community, but she provides resources.
To students and families on how to go about finding housing in the community, we have something called a Humboldt Tenant Landlord Collaboration, which meets frequently to share information with landlords as well as tenants on appropriate practices and advocacy and stuff like that. The Off Campus Housing website also includes a list of rentals that are vetted by our Off Campus Housing coordinator and how to look for scams.
What your rights are as a tenant and just things to be aware of.
Let's see if I have anything else.
I think that's all I have, so I will be here for questions at the end and I will hand it off to the next person.
Let's see, let me get to the correct.
Hello everyone, I'm Tia Chen. I'm the medical Director of the Student Health Center and just wanted to say welcome. And I wanted to let you know that our clinic is a triple HC accredited clinical site and which means that we are here by all the highest standards of safety of.
Practice standards accreditation for our our our our service members.
Our physicians, our counselors, our our nurses, etcetera and the students can access our clinic because they all paid a student health fee. So when they come in to be seen, they do not pay for, they do not pay for the visit or anything. And so they can utilize our services anytime we're open and we also do have an after hour call service as well.
And there are some things that do require a small fee, such as X-rays or pharmacy items and labs. And some of the usual things commonly seen college students may include.
Common infections or injuries. We also provide extensive reproductive sexual health care, including medication, abortion and of immunization.
Various kinds of specialized physicals, including physicals for international travel or scuba diving or sports. And we provide referrals when students need specialty care. And students can make their appointments by either calling us, emailing us, or by going on to the Student Health Portal, which is signified by this heart icon on the home page.
My humble page and everyone has access to the student health portal. They can make an appointment online on their own. And this is also portal where a student can look at their chart information, look at their immunization records, upload any information they need to upload.
And also fill out the forms. We do require every student to fill out a consent for treatment and also.

I am no longer hearing audio?
To help us serve you better by filling out a personal medical history form and depending on what they're being seen for, we might have other forms or questionnaires that we like to have students fill out. So that can be done through the student health portal. And then the other thing that might be good for students to know is that there is a humble app that a student can.

Use on their smartphones so that they can have access to the portal as well as some many other campus services announcements more easily.
Because it's formatted for the smartphone and we do have.
Two main sections of service, the medical and the CAPS, which stands for Counseling and Psychological Services. And then in addition, we also have health education. And today we have the representative from the Counseling and Psychological Services, Jennifer Blair, our counselor and therapist, who is going to talk about the CAPS.
Department of our of our clinic. So I'm going to hand it to you now, Jennifer and I'll be remaining throughout the session to answer questions if you have any. Thank you.
Yeah, I'm so glad to be with everyone. I am looking at the questions and it looks like maybe people are having a hard time hearing. I'm seeing a lot of no audio. Anyway, hopefully it will get recorded and be able to come through. And thank you, Doctor Chen for that introduction and I'm so happy to be here with you guys today.
I too am an alumni here in and so happy that people are coming and.
We have our counseling and psychological services that offers an array of supports for students. And so as one of the staff psychotherapist at Counseling and Psychological Services, I'll just spend some time reviewing that. So we offer some brief individual therapy. We have single session, sometimes something comes up that each same day appointment is.
Supportive or just a single session would be supportive.
And sometimes brief individual therapy also couples if both students or if the students are.
Together we can do some couples support and then we have a wide array of group counseling options and some of the groups and workshops that we offer you can see on the right hand side of this slide. So there really is a wide array.
That we offer here. Some of our groups are psychoeducational in nature, so a little bit like a class with information, Some are more kind of deep process groups and some are really drop in support groups and we partner with other campus entities for some for some of those drop in support groups.
We also have some case management.
That is shared within our well-being services and so really a wide array of supports for our students and.
We're just so happy to be here to support, to support the students and.
We can be accessed through the health portal or through calling the counseling and psychological services or e-mail. So looking forward to answering any questions if they arise and I will pass it to our next person. I don't think I have another slide. Student Life.

07:46:43 PM
hi Sulina, were you able to hear my audio? I am not sure what the issue was.
Hi everybody, umm, my name is Raven Craig. I'm the director of student life at Cal Poly Humbles. Once again. I am also an alum of the, of the, of the campus, a double alum. I got my masters and my undergraduate degree here, umm, and so I'm going to be talking a little bit about student life and kind of what you can expect some of the things that are coming up in the fall.
There are quite a few different kind of ways to get connected and activities on campus.
Maeve Fleming
07:46:54 PM
When will the groups/workshops schedules for the Fall semester be available?
I oversee the club's office. We have over 100 student active student clubs including.
Including clubs that are academic focused. We have clubs that are recreational, we have sports clubs, we have clubs that are we have fraternity and sorority life clubs. So really if you're interested in something that's you know about supporting your academics or if you're you know an avid bird watcher or if you play Dungeons and Dragons or you know if you.
Umm want to watch movies with a group of people there is going to be a club that kind of meets your needs and we all of our club offices are located in the guts without student activity center, which is right at the center of campus and you also can find our center activities program there center activities. I mean our center arts program our center arts program does live music shows They they sell our live theater tickets and they.
Do a ton of different kind of productions, so if you're interested in concerts or comedy, they have access there and they do a ton of free shows specifically for students. We also have some a program called The Jackpot where students can apply for funding to put on their own events. And you don't have to be part of a club in order to apply for that funding. But students can then use that funding to say bring a speaker or bring a band to campus or plan an event that they really have kind of an interest in. And we help with the planning process of that as well. I also oversee a number of student programs that are about.
Student activism and student community connections, including the YES House, which is the Youth Educational Services program, which is a program where students volunteer with our community. It's some of our best and most well connected students on campus go through YES, our Social Justice at Clean Inclusion Center and a diverse medical Scholars initiative, which are both programs that help students succeed academically, but also support students needs and interests in changing the world and becoming more equitable.
I also oversee our cultural Centers for academic excellence. These were mentioned briefly earlier during our advising session. So we have academic advisors who focus on culturally specific advising tactics. There's the Emoji Center, which works with our Black and African American students, El Centro which works with our our Latinx community, the Indian Tribal Education Personnel program, which is working with our Native communities, and the Adpimina program, which is Asian, Desi, Pacific Islander, Middle Eastern and North African communities.
And these programs are all structured a little bit differently, but the idea is they both have kind of community connections for students as well as academic support and culturally relevant event planning. And they support clubs that are specific to the identities that are that they serve. We have outdoor adventures programs which are like you can go on kayaking or backpacking programs. And these are, you know, small fee based.
You don't have to be in a certain community in order to attend these. We also have equipment rentals. So if you're interested, like if if you don't want to sign up for a backpacking trip, but you need to, you didn't bring a camp stove because you don't have enough room to have a camp stove. You can rent A camp stove or you can rent A kayak for a weekend. You can rent a surfboard and kind of go out and enjoy the beauty of our area. And the costs are very, very low. And so it's a very low threshold to kind of get out into the community.
We have a active Associated Students program. This is our student government. And so these are folks who are elected by other students to advocate for resources as well as redistribute student funds. And a couple of the programs they fund directly include the Eric Grovis Multicultural Queer Resource Center, which is a student based program to support LGBTQ students on campus, as well as our women's Resource Center, CCAT, which is Sustainability House.
That has been around since the 60s. It's really phenomenal. And then our award-winning sustainability programs are also funded by our associated students program. So just like kind of like looking forward in brief to when you get to campus, we will have a clubs fair on September 11th. And so all of our clubs as well as our associated student programs as well as our cultural centers will give that out on the quad and you'll be able to kind of get connected you'll if you're really interested in.
Pledging a fraternity of sorority, you can do that as well. And so those are times to kind of get information on on what those things are going to be like. The first six weeks of classes, we call that welcome home to Humboldt. And so we'll have a full calendar of events that you'll get in your e-mail right before school starts that are just different things that you can go to and attend. It can be difficult to make friends right away. Sometimes some people connect to the roommates real quick and sometimes they don't. And so it's important to go to different things to get kind of different vibes. I highly recommend students.
Join one or two clubs if they can, three if they if they can get the time for it, and then stick with one for the time you're here and that helps you stay connected and feel like you have a sense of community. We also have our Lumberjack weekend, which is our parent and family visitor weekend as well. This is going to be October 17th through the October 19th, so it's a weekend of events including a huge block party with a giant concert. Future food trucks will have some sport exposition.

07:52:51 PM
If we upload our immunization records on the online student health center and it lets us click save, does that me it was successfully submitted to you?
This is a great time for family to visit. We'll have a huge drag show. It's a really good time and so I highly recommend coming out and supporting your students during that time and getting connected if you're a student here coming to some of the events we're hosting. And then we have some live shows, music shows that you can already get tickets for if you want if you go to our center Arts program and easily navigateable via website. Postmodern Jukebox is playing in August.
El King and then David Cross, whose comedian is going to be doing his show and then we have the Black Violin show in October. So they are constantly adding new shows. So I would keep an eye on our websites and see kind of what's coming up. So I will be here for the whole of the presentation and I'm happy to answer any questions, but I'm so excited to meet all of you when you get here. I am usually a part of the orientation program, so I will see you right away when you first get to campus, so.
All right. Hi, everyone. Hopefully you can hear me OK. My name is Ashley Hanson and I work in the Office of Student Life with Raven as our orientation coordinator. Welcome to our campus community, and Congrats on your decision to start your next chapter, Humboldt. I myself am a double Humboldt alum, and I'm thrilled to be here and be to be someone that you can consider a resource as we embark on this exciting journey together. So today I'll briefly explain to you.
What you and your students can expect during Welcome Week.
So we're excited to meet you at orientation and move in day and what have you. The first thing we have going on to kind of start us off for Welcome Week is the parent, family and guest barbecue on Saturday, August 17th from 6:00 to 7:00 PM. The freshman orientation begins on Monday, August 19th and in person transfer orientation begins on Thursday, August 22nd and then on Friday for everyone, both freshman and transfer students who have a campus resource fair.
From 11:00 to 2:00 and then if you miss anything, forget anything can actually be here in person. All the materials as well as bonus information will be available the week after.
After orientation is over, so during welcome week, you kind of expect a dynamic blend of activities, information sessions, social events tailored to prepare you for, you know, the academic and social aspects of college life. Some of these kind of things include information sessions that'll cover a wide range of essential topics. A lot of them you've kind of been introduced to today.
But you'll get to learn a little bit more in depth about them in person and will be tailored to students. Specifically. We learn about academic advising, of course, registration, various support services available to you to ensure your success. And we'll introduce you to our learning communities, library resources, cultural centers, which we mentioned earlier, and study tips that will help you thrive academically. Secondly, we have organized tours of our beautiful campus highlighting key locations, academic buildings, residence halls.
Dining facilities and recreational areas as well. These tours will familiarize you with your new environments that you'll be calling home and making it easier to navigate and feel like it is more of a home. And then thirdly, our faculty and staff will also be available to answer any questions you may have. We are all here to guide and support you, so don't hesitate to reach out and engage with us if you need anything. Building these connections early on can be really beneficial and help you kind of integrate to our community a little bit easier.
In the meantime, check out orientation.humboldt.edu. Again orientation.humboldt.edu for some detailed schedules. There are some schedules posted. Pretty much freshmen are divided into two different types of green track and a gold track. So depending on your PBLC status or which PBLC you're in will determine which track you are a part of. So feel free to go on the website to double check what PDLC you are a part of.

Mega Barry: if you have uploaded your imm records to your student health portal, then we should have it. you will also need to fill out an attestation form through the registrar that attests to you having had the approp, immunizations. If you had K-12 ed in CA, you just attest to that and it is sufficient, if you are staying in the dorms, we also require covid ( any series ) and Meningitis A vaccine. Hope this helps, sorry my audio was not working right. feel free to email or call us.
And I think in closing, yeah, I just encourage you to embrace every moment of this orientation and welcome week and overall experience at Humboldt's. Take full advantage of the resources you'll have access to connect with your peers and immense immerse yourself in this kind of vibrant community we have here at Cal Poly Humboldt. This is an exciting start to an incredible adventure, and we're here to support you every step of the way. On this next slide here, I'll just have some resources for you.
If you wanted to take a picture.
Some other upcoming important dates and deadlines for moving when classes begin and again that Lumberjack weekend we mentioned if you want to start planning for travel at that time.
And with that, I will get into some of the things we have in the chat. I'm going to tackle the academic questions 1st that I have and I'll just make sure they go into the chat.
Carleigh Kennedy
07:58:15 PM
is Student Center the same as My Humboldt?
Umm, I'll start with Megan Berry because this was kind of an orientation question, but what day and time does the Rising Tides PBLC start? So again, freshman will begin that Monday morning. And then in terms of your specific PBLC schedule, that'll be posted pretty soon here within the week, if not tomorrow, hopefully. So you will get a general idea of what to expect given that you're part of a certain track. And then you'll get the details of each event pretty soon here and on the website, and the schedules and maps and stuff will be printed for you.
And e-mail to you ahead of time as well.
Megan Barry
07:58:34 PM
What day and time does the Rising Tides PBLC start?
And then the next question that I might need some help from help with from academics from Nathan Griffith. I think my child signed up for the incorrect math class. What is a process to confirm which is the correct level of math and also switch the class?
Nathan Griffith
07:59:26 PM
I think my child signed up for the incorrect math class. What is the process to confirm which is the correct level of math, and also switch the class? Thanks
Hi, I think the best option is to connect with an academic advisor and figure out based on the major what the course is that umm that your student will have to take depending on depending on the major, right? There are different levels of courses but umm but again, depending on the major, sometimes there is only, you know, 11 course that your student would take. So an academic advisor is probably the best person to talk to you and if.
Their holdups, for example, were problems with the transcripts. They can. They can.
Help you figure that out.
I was just going to echo that we do have Zoom drop insurance this week from 2:50 to help with those questions, with the math and any other kind of academic related questions. And then next week, I think our drop insurance are 11 to one and you can find the drop in Zoom link on the Academic Advising Center website.
Thank you. And then another question we have is, I'm an incoming freshman. Where would I contact my advisor?
I know it's in their student center but but.
Eddie Jimenez
08:00:58 PM
I am an incoming Freshman, where would I contact my advisor?
Sure, I'm sure multiple people will answer this question, but just out loud. So first time freshman and transfer students and returners. So in that online registration tutorial course that we talked about has how to contact your advisor. So you do, if you went through the course and you finished it, you can go back to the course at any point, but it will let you know how to contact an advisor. And for freshmen, it does say in there that you can contact. So we just heard from our academic partners, our academic advisors. So it does have contact information in the course for you.
And how to kind of access it. But they also have their website with their drop in hours. So you would want to reach out to them. And I'll let them chime in as well if they have others.
Thank you. And then I think I got this question we had someone asked what an EO or what what EOP is. An EOP stands for educational opportunity program and it's kind of a program to improve access for.
Adelaide Toll
08:01:38 PM
what is EOP
Low income, first generation and historically disadvantaged students for the potential to be academically successful. You can find out information about our EOP at humboldt@eop.humboldt.edu. And with that, I will pass it on to Selena to ask the next few questions.
Lily Shadden
08:02:11 PM
Do athletes need to complete the online registration tutorial?
Hello, sorry, hello again. So I'm going to ask Marty to come back because we have a couple questions that's related to not to the online registration tutorial and just transcripts and things like that and what not. So if money if you can join me. Perfect. Hi, welcome back. So my first question for you would be do athletes need to complete the online registration tutorial?
Yeah, that's a good question. Yes, they do. So all students, all incoming students for fall 2024 do need to complete that tutorial.
Chia Chen
08:02:25 PM
lLily Storseth: sorry the video and audio was not working right for me. please contact us at 707 826 3146 or email us at health@humboldt.edu if you have any specific questions about the student health and wellbeing services. I believe this webinar session is also recorded and can be rewatched. Dr. Chen
Jennifer Blair
08:02:34 PM
To Maeve, groups/workshops should be available by the end of August and early September. https://counseling.humboldt.edu/groups
Perfect, straight to point. I love it. OK so my next question will be if a student hasn't received their e-mail login information yet but they were told that they would get that e-mail by the end of this week and is there any way to get it sooner?
And I can also jump in on this one 'cause I am also for admissions, so I think that might be more of a question for me.
So basically our system is set up a specific way. So unfortunately there would be no way to get that information sooner. So I'm assuming you probably already do you reach out to admissions and Long story short, the answer is going to be unfortunately you just kind of have to wait until the system has gone through. But if you already got into this point, you should already have like your your username.
And password because you're here. So that's enough to get you into the system. Once you are able to go through the registration, which I might be tied to this, that's when you get access to your e-mail, which Maddie, you can talk about when the next when students who have recently paid their deposit when they're able to register since that is another question that's coming up in the chat.
Alexandria McCauley
08:03:49 PM
I haven’t gotten my email login yet
Alexandria McCauley
08:03:50 PM
I was told that I would get a email by the end of the week for this information. Is there a way that I can get it sooner?
You're muted. I can hear you now. Yeah.
Aidan Todd
08:03:59 PM
One of my immunizations is there, but not within the timeframe that was required. Can I get this updated at the healthcenter?
Can you hear me now? Can you hear me now? OK, Sorry. There was like an echo. So I didn't know if it was my headset and you at the same time. But when you talk, there's a slight echo. But I was going to say. So I did go over the new student registration, but I kept kept it vague. So I'll kind of go a little bit more. So for first time students or first time freshmen, if you recently paid your deposit, it takes about a few days for you to get put into that Canvas course. So I gave it about three or four days. If you haven't heard back or if you haven't been put into the course, please reach out to us and you can reach out at apply@humble.edu.
Chia Chen
08:04:55 PM
Aida Todd: sorry my audio and video was not working right. the recorded webinar should contain everything.
And we can try to make sure that you get into that course. Oh, and Selena, put the resources there on the site. And for transfer students, if you paid your deposit and it was after June 15th, then you're in the next session, which doesn't open until August. So that'll be August 5th. So you have to pay your deposit before the 31st if you haven't already. So I know somebody asked, can I still do the registration tutorial without paying my deposit? Unfortunately, you have to pay your deposit and intend to come in order for us to put you into.
That canvas course, so if you paid after the 15th, you will be into the next session which would be August 5th. So the course will open at 8:00 in the morning on August 5th.
Evan Altman
08:05:09 PM
What date did you say classes begin?
Ash Hansen
08:05:21 PM
@Evan classes begin August 26
Awesome. And this isn't the next question is regards to their transcript. So there's a couple students who have indicated that they have turned their transcripts in, but the information has not been transferred over, I'm assuming into their doors yet kind of what are the next steps?
Tiffany Nemo
08:05:32 PM
Hi my name is Tiffany Nemo. I have a question. I have turn in my transcripts but all the information have not transferred over. I am a transfer student.
Andy LaBonte
08:05:56 PM
When will we have more info about orientation? Like what time it starts etc
So the next steps would be if you've already turned in your transcripts and it's been about, if it's been more than three or four weeks, please reach out to us. So that way we can just make sure we have everything. But we need your official transcripts to be sent in. So if you haven't already done that, please send in your official transcripts. I know the deadline is the 15th, but the sooner we get it the better. And then once we get those, our transfer graduation counselors will update your doors. And it can take about four to six weeks only because we have so many coming in right now. But in the meantime, it does say in the canvas course to bring your unofficial to your advising meeting with your advisor.
That way they can help you figure out the right courses. So if you've turned in your official transcripts and it's been a while, you haven't heard anything, please reach out to us so we can look into it. But if you just turned it in this week or the last three weeks, just give us some time to get that in your degree audit report.
Cool. And then the last question before I pass it over to Ash to answer Ash and Morgan to answer some of these financial aid questions is why?
Megan Barry
08:06:38 PM
Why do "To-Do's" on Student Center not disappear after completing them?
Do the To Do List items on the student center not disappear after completing them?
Chia Chen
08:06:44 PM
Aidan Todd: yes we do update some immunization at the health center, those that we don't carry, you can get it at the local Public Health dept. or any local pharmacy ( if you have any type of health insurance ) please email any specific immunization questions to health@humboldt.edu and I can answer them fully. Thank you, Dr. Chen
Yes. So for right now, so unfortunately our student To Do List center, our student center is not accurate, always accurate. And so for now for anything admissions related, if you can check your applicant status page. So on your applicant status page, it should show like if you turn in your transcripts, it should tell you that you turn it in. But we're going through a new system change. And so unfortunately it's not always accurate on the student Center side. So make sure you're checking your applicant status page and if for any reason both of those.
Are showing that you haven't turned it in and you feel like you turned in your official transcripts you've gotten confirmation. You can always reach out to us too because if you order it online or if you mailed it in, we can always check and make sure that we have it in there. Yeah. So I think I think that was all the questions, Selena.
Yeah, I might. I'm going to ask you to come back later because I'm seeing some more questions that are rolling in. But I do want to pass it over to financially because there are questions that came in before these ones.
Perfect. Our first question we have for financial aid is I have not received my updated awards summary. When can I expect to see it?
Delilah Juarez
08:08:04 PM
Hi Ms. McBroom. I have a question regarding my financial aide. I have not received my updated award summary, when can I expect to see it?
That's a great question. So if you have an estimated award package, hang tight. The finalized award package will be coming out probably in the next two weeks, kind of an estimate. There will be rolling them out in groups and you'll get an e-mail once that finalized award package is available. If you've not received any kind of estimated award at this time, I would encourage you to reach out to our office. There could be a number of reasons why we're unable to provide you with an estimated award package.
Maybe there's paperwork that you have to submit or we need to review some aspect of your financial aid application to ensure that we're providing the most accurate information possible.
Perfect. Thank you. And then our next question is, is there a reason or is there a way for work study to appear on the financial award letter?
Adelaide Toll
08:09:02 PM
could't hear the section on immunizations. Which ones are required?
Sure. So we do not automatically package federal work study for all students for a number of reasons.
Jonathan Juarez
08:09:21 PM
Is there a reason work study doesn’t appear on the financial award letter?
Delilah Juarez
08:09:36 PM
Hi Ms. McBroom. I have a question regarding my financial aide. I have not received my updated award summary, when can I expect to see it?
Primarily because not all students want to work part time while they go to school. The other reason being that there are far more interested students in Federal Work Study than we have funds to provide to every student on campus. So if you are a student who is interested in Federal Work Study, which is working on campus, and then you earn the Federal Work Study award in the form of a paycheck, you just have to reach out to our office and we can add you to our Federal Work Study interest list.
Then you would have to go on to our Handshake portal and look for a student job on campus. You'll go through the interview process, and then if you are selected for this job, we can coordinate your Federal Work Study award with your employer on campus. I'd just like to note that you do not need Federal Work Study in order to work on campus as a student assistant or in one of the departments. It's really just a perk that helps students and departments alike. Umm, but many, many departments on campus hire student workers to help with their day-to-day work.
And a lot of times they have a budget available for their student workers, so it's not an absolute requirement. If you are interested in working on campus, it's a great way to network and get to know different staff and build a professional resume while you're going to school. Federal Work Study is just an option that's available. So please feel free to reach out to our office. We'll review your file and see if you qualify for Federal Work Study, and then we can walk you through the next steps of getting that award.
Perfect. Thank you. My next question for you is what if you do not get financial aid because your parents work for the CSU system?
That's a great question. So uh students who have parents that work for the CSU system may qualify for a fee waiver for their tuition, which is righteous. Definitely take advantage of that. That is a definite perk. UMM, but I would still encourage you to potentially apply for financial aid. You never know. Umm, you could be qualified for a Pell Grant. The Pell Grant.
Ernesto Cappuccio
08:11:38 PM
What if you do not get Financial Aid because your parents work for the CSU system?
Qualification Equation has updated drastically in the last year, so we see students who don't qualify for other programs that end up qualifying for a minimum Pell Grant, which is $740 for the year. I know it's not a lot, but hey, 740 bucks can help you in one way or another with different expenses related to school. The FAFSA application can take anywhere from 20 to 30 minutes to fill out depending on your comfortability with electronics and navigating.
Chia Chen
08:11:54 PM
Adelaide Toll: sorry about the tech issue. If you had gone to K-12 in California, you can attest to that fact on a form at the registrar and your immunization requirement is complete. If you are staying in campus housing, you will need to have had any covid immunization(s) plus the meningitis A vaccine.
And it's free, so really like you don't have anything to lose by throwing your hat in. But if you'd rather not, you can have your parent coordinate their staff or faculty fee waiver with the Student Accounts office and they will Student Financial Services. That's their e-mail right there. HSC Dash cash at humboldt.edu. So if your parent needs any additional information in order to get that fee waiver applied to your account, I encourage you to reach out to that office so they can guide you through the process.
Thank you. And then my next question for you, umm.
Do we offer any type of discounts for students to buy laptops?
That's a great question and a little bit outside my wheelhouse. Umm, there's not anything in the financial aid office specifically that's available for students who are looking for that discount. Umm, although you know, look online, I would encourage you to do some research. You never know what you might find out there in terms of private companies or third party resources or even local school district or umm, even your, your parents employer may offer resources that help their dependents through school.
Dana Murdock
08:13:14 PM
Who/what office should I reach out to for accessability support?
Perfect. Thank you. And I will add two. I will check with the campus bookstore as well. Some have specials going on with like Apple products and like specifically, so it might be worth reaching out to them as well.
Sulaina Banks
08:13:32 PM
@Dana Murdock, their email is student504@humboldt.edu
And then the next question for you, Morgan. Thank you. I was wondering when we might hear about the scholarships that are through Humboldt. Is that something you receive an e-mail about if we won an award or we're looking for some financial assistance?
Sulaina Banks
08:13:52 PM
That is the email for the Campus Disability Resource Center (CDRC)
Lucy Andreu
08:14:01 PM
Does Cal Poly provide any discounts on when purchasing a new lap top?
Yeah, so most of the Humboldt scholarships have already been awarded for the upcoming academic year. Uh, you should have received an award notification e-mail letting you know if you were the recipient of that scholarship. We've also already coordinated the scholarships to financial aid award packages. So when you review your financial aid, if you were selected for a scholarship, it would be on your award estimated awards letter. You can also log back into the scholarship portal.
Tiffany Nemo
08:14:10 PM
Thank you Sulaina Banks
Tiffany Nemo
08:14:11 PM
Thank you Mari Holguin
And it should give you a status update of that umm of that scholarship if you were not selected. It does indicate that on the the portal itself.
And is at the same place that they can.
See if their financial financial aid package is finalized as well.
Andrea Rodriguez
08:14:32 PM
how do we know if our financial package is finalized or not?
Max Wilson
08:14:37 PM
Are there other places a student can be looking for financial aid?
No, that's so to look at your financial aid award package, you would go to your applicant portal page and you could view your financial aid awards. There's a little link and then by clicking on that link, it will give you access to your estimated awards.
Perfect. Thank you. And then we have a question. Two, someone tried to call financial aid yesterday, but it was closed. Do you mind telling us what your availability is if they wanted to contact you?
Tiffany Nemo
08:14:58 PM
I have called Financial Aid yesterday but it said it was closed. What is your availability? Please and thank you.
Dana Murdock
08:15:05 PM
Thank you @Sulaina
Yeah, so the summer hours are Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, Friday from 10:00 AM to 3:00 PM. We're closed on Wednesdays during the summer. Umm, I would encourage everyone to go to our website and under the contacts tab we have all of our contact information are available office hours and we also offer once a month drop in Zoom sessions from three to six. Our next one is on the 17th. So all of that information again can be found on our website under the contacts tab.
Perfect. Thank you. And I'll do one more question if we didn't get to your question today, I'll be passing along emails today to where you can use them on the slide. But how is there a way for students to give their tribal ID numbers?

How can I give Fasa my tribal id number
Tiffany Nemo
08:16:08 PM
Thank you so much Ash Hansen and thank you Morgan McBroom!
No, the the FAFSA does not look at tribal identification information. If you are trying to apply for tribal funds or if your tribe needs verification of financial aid information, contact the office directly. We often do what we call financial needs analysis with different tribes to ensure that the tribe is getting your financial aid information and we let them know what the students need for additional funds are and then the tribe can decide what kind of award is available.
But the FAFSA itself will not try and obtain that information from the student.
Great. Thank you. OK. And I have one more question. I'm going to pass it back to Selena. Is there still a scholarship we have for local high school students? And is that something that they can apply for at this point in time?
Jared Pereira
08:16:40 PM
Hi Morgan, Is there still a $1,000 CPH scholarship for all local high school students?
So there is the Humboldt First Scholarship that is available to all of our local, uh, uh, area students. It, it's not required that you apply for it. Umm, it is automatically applied to your financial aid award. It will be on the finalized financial aid award package. Umm, other than that, though, there's not a specific one that local students have to apply for.
Thank you. I'll pass it back to Selena now.
Hello again, umm, I have questions for housing, so if our housing representative could please join us, we'll have a couple of questions, umm, regarding that topic.
Awesome. Thank you for joining us again. So my first question is how soon does housing respond to a petition for a room change request?
Devon Beton
08:17:49 PM
Student Center is on/in My Humboldt
Cassandra Espitia
08:18:04 PM
For Carly, how soon does housing respond to petition for room change requests?
So the room change requests are processed right now daily. If there it's, we can't give a date or a timeline because we don't know when that request will become available. So if if it's not available that day, we'll continue looking the next day and the next day. And whenever that request that that student has made opens up, we will assign them to the space or often times reach out to them and offer them the space first.
To see if they want it and if they do, we will then assign them. So there's not really a timeline or a date that we can give to that. It just depends on what they're requesting and what's available. We do have people canceling every day. So a lot of times those remove requests depend on who cancels or who somebody else that moves rooms and then there's open up and it might be what what they request.
Linayah Kuraspediani
08:18:42 PM
Is there a way for our student to connect with their roommate?
Awesome. My next question is, is there a way for their student to connect with their roommate?
Yes, in the My Housing portal, which you can find on your student center, go to My housing on the applications tab there it you would go to the academic year 2425 application and on the application status page the roommates will be listed there and their emails and you can also message them through the portal.
So the next question that I'm seeing in the order that we received them earlier is if they were, if a student was assigned a triple dorm, could you would you mind giving them more information on the space, how the space is divided?
Delilah Juarez
08:19:36 PM
Hello Ms. Strand. I was assigned a triple dorm, would you mind giving me more information on a triple dorm and how the space is divided. Thank you!
Yes. So the freshman dorms, the triple rooms have one set of bunk beds on one side of the room and then the other room has a top bunk with a desk and dresser underneath and then the other two desks are in between the two, the two beds. And if you are in a triple and you would like you would not like to be in a triple, you can put in a remove request for a double and if it's available, we will move you.

08:19:55 PM
@Nathan Griffith - here is the information on advising Zoom drop in hours, we can help with the math class question. https://acac.humboldt.edu/drop-in-advising
Do does someone need to complete the housing application or anything if they're not planning on living on campus?
No, it's only if you would like to move into the residence halls. If you're living off campus, you don't need a housing application.
If their freshman student freshman daughter still has not received their housing assignment, who do they contact?
Kacy Ivie
08:20:27 PM
My freshman daughter still has not received her housing assignment. Who should we contact?
I would contact, uh, send an e-mail to housing@humboldt.edu. It's on the screen there. Umm, any questions at all that you have about housing can go to housing@humboldt.edu. And students are, we have student staff that are working that e-mail and they will forward those questions to the appropriate person in the office. And if it's a female freshman, we do have space. So depending on when they applied it, they should be getting a room assignment very soon. But if you're concerned, if it's been a while, go ahead and shoot an e-mail to housing@humble.edu.
Awesome and this person just wants to confirm. Is there a mini fridge in the rooms?
So there are many fridges in the hill which is sunset and Redwood, as well as Canyon which there's 8 Canyon buildings. Umm those all have a mini fridge and a microwave in them.
Perfect. So there, I'm actually going to go to the important dated deadlines because there's a few questions in here where they're asking when freshmen are allowed to move on to campus. So just reiterating the dates.
Chia Chen
08:21:52 PM
Immunization requirement can be found at this page: https://wellbeing.humboldt.edu/immunizationsrev2023
Yeah, which is? It's a Saturday, Yeah. So I'll leave this one up for a little bit. That way everyone's able to.
Capture it. So move in date for freshmen or first years are going to be August 17th. For transfers, that's going to be August 19th.
There is a time slot system type thing is that.
Liam Clark
08:22:11 PM
My DARS access is denied, is that normal?
Yeah, yeah. There's a form also in the My Housing portal in the application. It's in the application where you can select A move in time.
What are the chances of someone getting off the wait list if their 40th on the wait list?
That's a hard question to answer, but in in my opinion, if I had to guess, I would anticipate that we're going to get through the entire wait list before the first day of school. I know that's well after the canceled date, but we are canceled dates July 19th and we will get a lot of cancels on that day, which will open up a lot of space for the people on the wait list. We have had much larger wait list than we have now in years past and we have gotten through the whole thing.
So while I cannot guarantee that, I think that that the chances are good. I understand it's still like taking a risk, but I do think that we'll be able to place if not all most people.
Awesome, and if a transfer student just finished their application, their housing application, when would they know about student housing?
So if they just completed the application, they might not get housing till very, very close to the first day of school or even after, and they would only know once they're added to the wait list. So we usually add people to the wait list maybe once a week. They will be able to check their their my Housing portal to see their wait list number there. And then they won't know if they have a room until we actually assign them a room. And then they will get an e-mail as soon as that happens.
Perfect. And how would one know if they're on the wait list?
They would check their their portal, their my housing portal. If they don't see it listed there, then they haven't been added. And like I said, we usually add it like once a week. We'll go in and Add all new applicants.
Marissa Holguin
08:24:18 PM
@Liam, if you have not completed the new student registration tutorial, then DARS would not be able to be accessed yet. Once we get you into the course, you should be able to see that. Still send in transcripts.
Awesome. And then umm, this question is can you get your dorm? Can you get access to your dorm early and get like the key?
Yeah. So if you need to arrive early before the 17th or the 19th, there is also an early arrival form in the My Housing portal. And if you need to arrive more than like a couple days beforehand, you would have to fill out a comment box explaining your situation and it would have to go through an approval process to see if if one your room is available. Excuse me, 'cause we have conferences and summer housing and construction.
Keelan Yount
08:25:05 PM
hello, i just finished with my housing application and i was wondering when i should expect my next email regarding the registration tutorial.
Happening all over the summer, which does make some rooms unavailable early. So it would go through an approval process to see if it was a valid reason to come early as well as if the room was available. And that's in my housing portal under application as well.
Awesome, so this student is asking.
I, I think I might, we might, I might have to clarify a little bit, but how do we access our students emails I'm not seeing on their application page? I'm assuming they mean how do they get their, their roommates emails to reach out to them, not like get access to their emails.
Marissa Holguin
08:25:50 PM
@Keelan, the next available session for transfer students is on August 5th at 8am.
Yeah, yeah, that makes sense. So I would, I would send a question to housing@humboldt.edu and with your specific student and we can look into it. We can access the portal as them and see what they're seeing or maybe help guide them to the right spot if they're not able to find it. We would, I think we would have to help the student one-on-one, maybe in that situation.
Liam Clark
08:26:26 PM
How do I get access to the registration tutorial?
So I think that for now this is the that was the last housing question I do. I would like to ask Ash to come on because I am seeing a few orientation related questions I think you might be able to answer if you haven't already answered them, the first one being.
Do freshmen need to take the orientation canvas course?
Marissa Holguin
08:26:53 PM
@Liam, the next available session for transfer students is August 5th at 8am.
Umm, they do not need to take the orientation canvas course. UMM, it'll be available to you no matter what. UMM is something to refer back to if you forget something. Umm want to look more into a certain subject that maybe you UMM learned about during the week? UMM So no, completely optional. It'll be there for you whenever you want to access it if you ever want to.
Perfect, and I know this is not 100% related to you, but do you know what the PBLC is?
Bella Sisk-Correll
08:27:17 PM
what deposit is this for? I haven't received any emails about a deposit, where do I need to look?
Yeah, so PLCS are kind of freshman specific. Every freshman that gets accepted and admitted has the option of being kind of enrolled in PBLC, which stands for a place based learning community. It's a really cool opportunity. You get housed with like minded individuals, whether it be the subject that your PBLC is or maybe it's a major based PDLC. So you'll see kind of if you look at the orientation website, you'll see kind of how we group them up. But yeah, it helps you build connections right away.
Serves academics tailored to you and you get support from day one and kind of build your own cohort as a freshman, which typically doesn't happen until you're in your upper division classes. So it's just a really community building opportunity that really helps you.
Marissa Holguin
08:27:55 PM
@bella, when you accept your admissions you will have to pay a deposit. Once you accept your admissions you should see that deposit.
Connect with your peers and our faculty.
Alexandria McCauley
08:28:26 PM
I haven’t gotten the email for registering classes yet. When will that come in?
Awesome, thank you. So some of these questions I feel like I can also answer just to kind of jump in and you know help with our other speakers not having to turn on and turn off real fast. So there is a question about whether or not that drop in advising sessions are still available this week. They are available, they're available until or they're available this week from 2:50 until this Friday.
Marissa Holguin
08:28:55 PM
@Alexandria, the next available session with be August 5th at 8am
And then starting on Monday, it's going to be available from 11:00 to 1:00 and I'm going to drop in the chat, the actual academic advising drop in website on there. So you can you can definitely see it. I do see that there's some admissions related questions I'm also going to answer. But then I am going to ask that Maddie comes back in because it's kind of like a combo for us. Admissions in the registrar work very, very closely. So we might have to tag team a little bit on some of these questions.
Ash Hansen
08:29:22 PM
More information regarding PBLCs: https://www.humboldt.edu/pblc
So the question that I'm seeing is, can we still complete the tutorial video even though you haven't accepted admissions? The answer is going to be no. You only get access to the new student registration tutorial after you accept your admissions and after you pay the enrollment deposit. And that's when you're allowed or able to get access to the online registration tutorial, complete that, meet with your academic advisor and then register for classes. So hopefully that.
Answers that question for you.
Another question that I did see is they turned in their transcripts but the information hasn't transferred over. I know Maddie answered that earlier, but if you could just kind of reiterate it and also explain how would a student know if we did receive their transcript?

Orientation Information: orientation.humboldt.edu
Is it working? OK? It's green, we're good. So if you had just submitted your transcript, so let's say you ordered it through Parchment or you asked them to mail it to us, you should be able to see that we received it two ways. Actually, you can go ahead and check your applicant page, your applicant status page, not your student center. Sometimes that's not always accurate. So your applicant status page should show you if we received it and also if you ordered it through Parchment. Fun fact, they will send you a confirmation e-mail that we've received it.
So you'll get a confirmation e-mail that you've ordered it and then you get a confirmation e-mail that you have received it as well. So if for any reason you get that e-mail saying we received it, but it's not showing that we received it in your applicant status page, please let us know. And then if you just ordered transcripts and you are not seeing that reflected in your doors or your degree audit report, as I mentioned, we're getting a lot of influx right now. So it could take about four to six weeks for us to get all those into your doors. So if you just ordered it, please give them, give us some time. But if it's been more than four to six weeks.
Please reach out to us so that way we can look into it and make sure that we have everything that we need. And I can check in with your TGC, which is your transfer graduation counselor, and make sure everything is going smoothly and we can kind of update for you. So you kind of want to just keep an eye out or an ear out, however you want to say it. And just shameless plug, as transfer coordinator, transfer students, if you need any help, my student and I are doing drop insurance each week and we're sending emails about those drop insurance.
So if you do want to come talk to us, please feel free to come talk to us with any transfer questions that you have. Sorry, shameless plug, I thought I'd throw it in there.

I don't think it's shameless. You're good.

And then I do see that there is a question here in regards to having kind of register.
A an animal to live in the dorms with you. I know Carly could definitely answer that too, but I can kind of jump in because the process starts with our campus resource disability Center.
Yep, that's right. And I also saw somebody did ask how to or which department to contact for accessibility and that would also be the Campus Disability Resource Center.
And for emotional support animals, there's a process that you have to go do go through, you have to make an appointment with them and provide documentation. And then once it's done with the CDRC, they pass the rest of it over to housing and we require some additional documentation as well.
Umm. And then I'm, I'm see, OK, I'm going to also ask.
Ash Hansen

Lumberjack Weekend info: https://homecoming.humboldt.edu/
So once again, if you have the transcripts are umm, showing up as not received, you want to e-mail, apply. So APPLY. Apply at humboldt.edu. So kind of like anything related to.
Transcripts e-mail apply because they will be your best point of contact for that. And then sorry, Carly, I'm going to ask you to come back because someone is asking if they're if the IT might, it might be I think it's you, but if medical forms and immunization records are needed to be complete before moving into the dorms.
No, we don't require in housing. We don't require any type of immunizations. I'm not certain if like campus wide they require that the student Health Center anything like that. But specifically for housing, no we don't.
Perfect. So it's not not needed for housing, but it might be it is needed for the student Health Center.
Some a very specific financial aid question, but I know you joined. I want to do the answer that question for the the rec, the medical records and whatnot.
Oh, can you hear me Selena? I'm sorry. Bye. My text wasn't working before. I think I was connected to all the speakers but not the attendees. So umm. So as far as I understand the immunizations.
Are required, umm, for housing in terms of we want to make sure that students are not passing COVID around. So they do want to have some kind of COVID immunization, anything and then a meningitis, a vaccine if you are under 21 because that is pretty deadly.
So this is in the immunization requirements that was, I guess it was 2023 and it still applies to this year, next year. And for the other immunizations on campus, generally it's any student that's gone through KK through 12 in California, they likely have already filled the requirement. They just have to say fill out the attestation form during the time of registration. And then they, as long as they've gone through K through 12 California, they, they've had it done. They, they, they fulfill the requirement. So it's really easy. We don't need any proof.
And so, so only thing that we need to upload is the COVID and the meningitis a vaccine. And if there's specific information that you can't, you don't understand or you still need, just e-mail the health.health@humble.edu so you can, we can answer your questions more specifically.
Is that is that OK? OK, OK.
I think that's yeah, I think that's good. I think if it's very specific to to your case of not being able to submit something to reach out to the Health Center because that's going to be your your best resource for this because it would be very specific to you. So hopefully that does answer the question that just came in.
Thank you so much for that. So I do have a financial aid question which I'm not sure if you're going to be able to answer it because it is very, very, very specific.
So if I receive the music scholarship, do I have to take music classes?
That depends on the donor. So essentially financial aid does not decide what is the requirement for the scholarship. It is the the person or the organization that is providing the scholarship. So if you received this scholarship and as part of the application and qualifications, it says you must be a music major or you are required to take a music class during your first year.
Then yes, but if there are no such specific criteria in the award information, then we just coordinate the award and ensure that it gets out to you once we receive the funding from the donor.
Perfect. And how would this person receive the CFCSF academic scholarship that they received from their high school? How would they know that your office have has received it?
That's a great question because we receive scholarship information from outside resources in a number of different ways. So it's probably best to e-mail my office with your name, your Humboldt ID number, which is the the 9 digit number, and then the name of the scholarship that you have been awarded. And then what we can do is we can look through our records to see if we've received that information from the donor, from another resource.
And then ensure that it gets coordinated with your financial aid award package.
Sophia Cologna
08:38:18 PM
Are there medical forms/immunization records that need to be completed before moving in to the dorm?
Cool. And one person asks, umm, when will the locally awarded, like the humble first essentially scholarships, uh, be displayed on their financial aid portal or financial aid award?
Yeah, that's a great question. So if you're a local student, whether or not you are a financial aid student, as long as you are a local student, we will be applying the Humboldt for scholarship with our finalized award packaging sequence. And like I said, it'll probably be in the next two weeks that we begin sending out those finalized awards for you.
Jared Pereira
08:39:02 PM
Thank you, Morgan!
That is kind of a lot of the, the questions I'm seeing there are a lot of there are some questions are very specific. So for example, we had a student who is a transfer student who's not staying on campus, but they want to know what type of immunization record system is kind of going back to what I said earlier, please just email.health@humble.edu because that's so specific to you.
Um, I think it'd be best if you just contact them directly, so.
Chia Chen
08:40:00 PM
Sophia Cologna: yes for campus housing students, any covid vaccine and Meningitis A vaccine is required. For all students, MMR series, varicella(chicken pox) and hepatitis B series. please check the page here: https://wellbeing.humboldt.edu/immunizationsrev2023
In regards to our last little bit, this recording is going to be sent out to you tomorrow. So if you want to see a specific slide, you will have this recording and you will be able to go back and view review it on your own. So it is going to be available to you, to you. So you can see see that slide. I think what I'm going to end off with is once again talking about the students sent off picnics.
This is a great way for you to get connected to kind of the the other students and families who are now related to humble and you can also see some other.
Staff who have been here, maybe some alumni. It's honestly a really great event. I wanted to put this one up again because it does have the QR code that takes you directly to the website. So hopefully it is easier for you to find this information for you but if I think.
At this point, we have answered all of the the questions or at least a commonly asked questions. If we weren't able to get your question, please, please e-mail us. All of the emails are listed here, so feel free to reach out to us and they are going to be your your greatest resource as well. And if you do have.
